Understanding the Challenge
For nearly five decades, Lisa lived with the daily consequences of a severe fall in 1972 that left her with a damaged spinal column. Despite years of treatment, her own physiotherapist eventually recommended a more proactive approach—one that would fundamentally improve her posture and overall physical condition to build a foundation for lasting strength.
Our Approach
Lisa was initially hesitant, planning only a trial session to see what Pilates was about. Our immediate goal was to understand the unique complexities of her long-term injury and create a safe, controlled environment for her to explore movement. We focused on foundational exercises, emphasising precision and core engagement to build stability from the inside out.
The turning point came not from within the studio, but from the outside world.
"Immediately, someone in my circle said: 'It seems as if you're walking and standing differently.' I had also seen this myself, but I didn't tell the people whom I had asked if they could see what was wrong with my back."
This unsolicited, real-world feedback validated the immediate impact of our method. What began as a single trial session quickly evolved into a dedicated, four-year journey of consistent weekly training, with each session building upon the last.
The Results
The transformation has been nothing short of remarkable. Lisa's journey is a powerful testament to the body's ability to heal and strengthen, regardless of age or the duration of an injury. The benefits have extended far beyond her initial goals, enhancing her hobbies and restoring a level of physical freedom she hadn't felt in decades.
The most surprising testament to her progress came from an unexpected source—her golf instructor.
"He told me last week: 'You shouldn't change your swing at all. Because it's great. I've never seen anyone your age who is that flexible.'"
